Local boys flying the Eastern Cape flag at the 2013 Sasol Rally

Algoa Rally Club locals Morne Janse v Rensburg and Rikus Fourie headed up the local field in the annual Sasol Rally held in Sabie and Neslpruit the past weekend. A very exciting rally with international competitiors Matthew Wilson (Son of Mr. M-sport, Malcom Wilson) of England and Chris Patterson (former WRC navigator for Peter Solberg) of Northern Ireland entering in the second Mark Cronje FiestaArticle Sasol Rally EC

Andrew Heine and Henry Adams in the Heinesport Toyota Auris made their first outing in the Sasol and the National S1600 class and Bryan Heine with late replacement navigator Neels Vosloo entering in Bryan's GMP motorsport prepared Datsun SSS Coupe.

It was very tough from the first countdown with the SSS breaking a side-shaft in stage 1 soon to be followed by trouble for the S2000 challenge GC Diesel Polo which was forced to retire after 3 stages. Andrew and Henry also ran into bad luck as their jack broke trying to repair a flat. Hard work and little sleep from the GMP Motorsport mechanics ensured that Both the Heine's could re-enter on day 2 under super rally rules to salvage a result for the region.

Heavy rain and very slippery and muddy roads awaited in the plantations outside Sabie after 2 crowd packed stages in Nelspruit which included the famous Spagetti-Junction super special. A couple of stages was cancelled and the heavy rain continued as competitors head back to Nelspruit for the final stage in the showgrounds.

Andrew Heine and Henry Adams finished their first Sasol Rally in the Heinesport Toyota Auris S1600 despite some problems like Andrew said afterwards: "Tough weekend for us but definitely some positives to build on. Thanks to GMP for the excellent car prep and great service"

Bryan Heine and Neels Vosloo also managed to bring the SSS Coupe home under super rally rules, picking up a 2nd in class S20 to the delight of a very tired GMP Motorsport team.
