The Algoa Rally Club's R50kChallenge Round 2, the Ocean Basket Rally, will take place on the 11 May 2013. The rally will start at the Ocean Basket in Uitenhage at 08h30 with scruitineering and documentation. Rally cars will line up in front of the parking area in 60 Cannon Rd for the public to view.

Expected entries will exceed 30 with National competitors that include: current SA champions Mark Cronje/Robin Houghton (S2000 Ford Fiesta), Morne Janse Van Rensburg/Rikus Fourie (VW Polo S2000), Volkswagen Motorsport and Toyota competitors who will use this event as a warm up for the National VW Rally that will take place in July.

The first rally car will leave the Uitenhage Ocean Basket parking at 11:00 am and proceed to Jagtvlakte outside Uitenhage for the "Bay FM" special gravel stage around the pan for the benefit of the Uitenhage spectators.Sponsor Article Image

This will be an excellent place to view the National and local spectators. From the "Bay FM" stage the rally will travel along the back roads to the N2 and take the Hankey off-ramp to enter the Longmore Forest where stages will be repeated with a service park. Spectators are welcome to follow the rally and download spectator guides from the website before the event or collect copies from the start of the rally at the Uitenhage Ocean Basket on Saturday morning.

Local competitors will compete for the R50 000-00 annual prize with Andrew Heine (S1600 Toyota Auris) leading by 2 points from Rikus Schmit (VW Golf) and Ross Bartle (VW Polo) with respective navigators Henry Adams, Stephno Pieterse and Rick Janse Van Rensburg after round 1.

The rally will end at the Thornhill Hotel at approximately 16:30 where the cars will be displayed in Parc Ferme and prize giving will follow.
