The 50k club championship takes place in areas around the Eastern Cape during the year with seven rallies which include the Volkswagen National rally and the classes are: S1: 1400, S2:1600 and S3:2000 engine capacity. Competitors score points for class results which count toward the 100k prizes. This levels the playing field and the front runners are not always favoured to win the championship.

The championship and first prize recipients for the past two years have been from the 1400 class and based on class wins and consistency which is favourable for good results and enhanced by teamwork between driver and navigator. With seven events and only six to count this year, the organisers are hoping for a close contest which will go down to the wire.

Algoa Rally Club identified the need to bring rally to the people and this has since been adapted around the country and this includes National events. With the assistance of business, rally stages are planned in public areas and shopping malls to draw attention to the sport and business. Spectators are treated to a display of car control, burning rubber and adrenaline action at no charge and can follow the rally around the special stages and make this a family outing for the day.

The Algoa Steel rally will be the first event of the year starting at Hunters Retreat Hotel with documentation on the 14 March at 8h00 and then moves to the premises of Algoa Steel and the Parsons Green area. Tar roads will be the first stage staring at 10h00 the rally will then move to the PEOTR oval circuit Mission Rd super crossover stage and then onto Jacht Vlakte, starting at the lake.

Spectator areas will be in front of Algoa Steel Greenbushes, PEOTR super stage and around the lake at Jacht Vlakte. The Algoa Steel Big Foot Jeep PA System will provide the spectators with updated results and rally information. The rally will end at the Hunters Retreat Hotel followed by a prize giving.
