The Ocean Basket & House of Steak 50k Rally held on the 2 May in the Uitenhage area, was won by Neels Vosloo and Kevin Futcher respective driver and navigator, driving a Toyota Yaris 1500 Class 2. Bryan and Keith Heine Datsun SSS coupe won the first gravel stage at Motherwell, Neels Vosloo the 2nd and 5th stage and Ross Bartle stage

Unfortunately Heine broke a stub axle in stage 2 and Bartle lost time with overheating and his bonnet flipping allowing Vosloo a clear sprint to the finish. Nico Smith and Ron Scott were the runner up team driving a S3 Polo, with consistent stage times that rewarded them with second place, followed closely by Johan and Juane Viljoen who limped to the finish with gearbox problems, 20 seconds off second place.

Jan Vosloo and Ria Viljoen Jansen driving a Toyota Yaris took class S1 followed by Stephno and Lario Pieterse Volkswagen Citi Golf, the first of the RA5 development cars as a driver after an apprenticeship of navigating for Rikus Schmidt.

Rufus Neethling and Henry Adams were second in S2 with the well presented Polo 1600, along with Melissa Heyman, Ashley Bezuidenhout and Ruan Gerber who accounted well for themselves in the consistency department with an eye on the championship. Gavin Murphy suffered gearbox issues and had a disappointing day by his standards.

The rally ran smoothly and was a good introduction to the National Volkswagen Rally on 17 and 18 of July which will be run on similar gravel stages. The Daniel Pienaar School tar stage was challenging and enjoyed by the spectators who were kept up to date with live commentary from Stanford Slabbert broadcasting from Magnetic Storm head quarters. Ocean Basket & House of Steak were the event sponsors and venue for the prize giving.

The Next rally will be the Loerie Rally starting and finishing at Spekboom Lapa on the 6 June 2015 and expected to be another contest of supremacy for the front runners on stages that will vary from fast high speed sweeps and farm fields along the Gamtoos River area.
