How to become a marshal

Good, well trained, motivated marshals are an extremely important component in any rally event. Without marshals no motorsport event can take place.

Who can become a marshal?
You have to be at least 16 years of age can get involved in marshalling.
You must have a passion for sport (especially motorsport).
He/She must be patient and wise.
You must be able to make firm decisions without being a dictator.

Marshal duties

Rally marshals - types and tasks:
1) Chief marshal: He/she is in control of all the marshals. Duties include: ensuring that correct number of marshals are present, overseeing all the marshals and their duties. The Chief marshal reports directly to the Clerk of the Course.
2) Deputy Chief marshal: He/she is responsible for the tasks of the Chief marshal should the Chief marshal not be able to complete the duties for whatever reason.
3) Equipment master: Duties include the responsibility of ensuring that each team of marshals has the right equipment for every section where these teams need to perform their tasks.
4) Parc Ferme marshal: This marshal regulates Parc Ferme and ensures that the Parc Ferme rules and regulations are complied with.
5) Service Park marshal: This marshal regulates the Service Park and ensures that the Service Park rules and regulations are complied with.
6) Stage marshals:
    A) Start stage marshals: They allocate starting times and handle the start of the rally cars at every special stage.
    B) End stage marshals: They are responsible for the timing at the end of every special stage and calculating the stage time of each rally competitor.

Rally marshals have to face the elements doing their duties in often very remote and rough terrain. If you love rallying or motorsport and you are looking for a way to get involved and get as close to the rally action as possible then this is for you!

How do I start?

Contact the club secretary, she will guide you from start to finish, help you with the admin and get you on a rally special stage as a marshal sooner than you think!
